A practical handoff template for after-hours dispatch teams to transfer active loads, exceptions, driver issues, pending documents and follow-up priorities between shifts.

Use this template at the end of each shift to give the incoming team a clear picture of active freight, unresolved issues and required follow-up.
For each active shipment, record:
Document any active exception, including:
Include the current status, who was notified and what action is still pending.
List any drivers or carriers that require another call or message.
Include:
Track documents that still need to be collected or reviewed, such as:
Record any updates that must be sent during the next shift.
Include:
Clearly identify issues that need supervisor or client attention.
For each escalation, record:
Before ending the shift, list the most important open tasks in priority order.
Example:
Priority 1: Driver ETA confirmation for late delivery
Priority 2: Follow up for missing POD
Priority 3: Update customer after facility delay
